About Mistress Poker

For a very long time, poker was seen as a card game played by degenerates in dingy, dark and smoke filled back rooms of old Italian restaurants smelling of old beer and stale cigarettes. Participants in these games were often thought of as society’s refuse - wasting away their pay cheques gambling away their rent money to card sharks and criminals.

The people who played these games (and continue to do so today) online and in legitimate casino rooms,   know this not to be the truth. We all know Poker to be a truly beautiful creature; a game of skill that takes a lifetime of will and patience to master, an honourable exercise in the pursuit of psychologically defeating opponents, a true equaliser among all men and woman, and in the end it excited us like nothing else.

With the advent of televised poker, Chris Moneymaker and Joe Hachem’s successes, the game grew and attracted a wider more mainstream audience, yet poker continued to carry the old stigma and poker players continued to be frowned upon by the wider community.

If you were an avid poker player and wanted to participate in pub poker games seven nights a week or turn pro and grind out five figures per week online you kept it to yourself and couldn’t share the highs or lows with your family and friends or you would be labelled a degenerate. Through it all the constant of your life was your dark little secret; the addiction to the rush of scooping monsters, the need to play just one more hand or one more orbit, the second home that came to be the green felt, the riffling of chips and the cutting of cards. Poker became your mistress, always beckoning and calling you back into that hidden, taboo world!

You loved her! You lusted after her! You couldn’t let anyone know about her, she was yours and yours alone!  You had to sneak out to be with her and prove her worthy of your passion.

While poker becomes more and more mainstream and is now a more commonly accepted entertainment product it can be said that the past stigma and negative associations with poker are diminishing. But the one thing that does remain is the Mistress, always calling you, always wanting more of your time and passion. We spend all day thinking about her, we spend all day wanting to be with her and we are not fulfilled until we are with her.

Poker is without a doubt, the other woman in our lives!

Mistress Poker is the OTHER WOMAN.
